Developmental Evaluations of Toddlers and Young Children and Short-term Play Therapy (coming soon)

The assessment of young children needs to be comprehensive and collaborative. Thus, the evaluation may have multiple parts to it. The first step in this process is to understand how to answer the question(s) your family has about your child. In addition to Dr. Singh's free consulation, the next part of the evaluation is for her to complete an indepth clinical interview with your family about your child's early development, and current developmental milestones and your family's concerns. Next, Dr. Singh always conducts a devleopmental evaluation for a variety of reasons. This is to observe your child in my office with your family present, engaging in reciprocal tasks together. Your child's developmental milestones may not be a concern, however, this testing allows Dr. Singh to confirm this as well as observe other qualitative characteristics of your child in a structured setting. This evaluation lasts no longer than 2 hours and Dr. Singh usually uses the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, 4th edition if your child is less than 3 1/2 years old. This is the first meeting with Dr. Singh. Then, if needed, Dr. Singh speaks to the providers and teachers in your child's life, and may go to your child's daycare or preschool for an observation. Parent measures are used to provide supplemental information about your child as well as gain more specific information about behavior and characteristics of self-regulation (e.g., sustained attention). If clinically indicated, Dr. Singh performes the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2nd Edition (ADOS-2). Typically on the day of the ADOS-2, Dr. Singh gives you her immediate feedback about her clinical impressions but does not provide her final impressions or developmental plan until she puts all the information together in a report.

Within a month, Dr. Singh compiles all of the information about your child and writes a comprehensive report, both including your child's strengths and areas of need. Dr. Singh's reports are specific, detailed oriented, and practical.

Dr. Singh is still in the process of figuring out her follow-up schedule with families which is typically every 6 months.
